Resumption of construction Matterhorn Glacier Ride II
The days are getting longer again and warmer temperatures are already being measured in the valley with the rays of sunshine. But at almost 4,000 metres above sea level, the cold and high snow walls continue to dominate. The resumption of the construction sites around the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II is therefore correspondingly difficult and the construction workers have spent the days since the beginning of February clearing snow.

For the construction teams, snow clearing is nothing new. Even in summer, it happens from time to time that precipitation falls in the form of snow at almost 4,000 metres above sea level. What is different, however, when resuming work after the winter break is the amount of snow that has accumulated over the past two months. It should not be forgotten that clearing snow at this altitude cannot be compared to shovelling the driveway of a house in the village early in the morning. Due to the low oxygen content of the air at altitude, a person at almost 4,000 metres above sea level can only work at 60% to 80% of his or her normal capacity. The photo series shows the massive walls of snow through which the construction teams shovel their way.
