New, innovative Skidata access system

Zermatt Bergbahnen, the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway and the Gornergrat Railway are investing in a future-oriented and innovative access system for the coming winter season, which will set new standards in terms of accessibility and digital customer service.

The previous access systems with the familiar turnstiles for customer guidance will be replaced by the innovative sMove technology from Skidata. In future, a new folding mechanism with yellow wave elements will also open the access visually completely, and guests will be able to enjoy barrier-free skiing or hiking fun. The new access system also provides the basis for the future in the area of smartphone ticketing.

The new access system developed by Skidata with the yellow wave folding mechanism enables easy and visually recognizable access in any entry situation. If the gate is closed, access is blocked by the yellow wave element. When opened with a valid ticket, the yellow element swings flat against the side reading system until the person has passed through the gate. This technology is supported by state-of-the-art sensor technology and person recognition. The new system represents a significant advance in barrier-free access, as the new gates can be used flexibly as a double or single system. In the double system, bikes, baby carriages or people in wheelchairs will be able to access the entrance effortlessly in future without having to ask for special access. In total, over 190 new access readers will be installed on the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway, Gornergrat Railway and Zermatt Bergbahnen in the Zermatt - Matterhorn destination between the end of September and December, 40 of which will be equipped with barrier-free double access on the main routes.

Basis for digital smartphone ticketing
The technology and sensors of the new, lean access systems are also being modernized so that access to the lift can also be realized via smartphone in the near future, which will enable a fully mobile and digital customer experience. Integrated readers for digital ski passes will enable ski passes to be purchased online in future and used as a digital smartphone ticket instead of a keycard. The smartphone's battery is only used to a small extent, even in cold temperatures. The digital solution avoids long queues at the ticket office and enables a seamless digital customer experience right up to the start of the outdoor activity in the beautiful Matterhorn Paradise.
